REC Reflections

This term’s fundraising is centred on collecting food items for community-based Christmas hampers. Each week there will be a new category for the donations. This week we have been collecting boxes of breakfast cereal. Next week we will be collecting condiments and sauces such as pasta sauce (for all the pasta we have collected!), jams, tomato and barbecue sauce, salad dressings etc. Below is a list of the other items we will be collecting on a week-by-week basis, but we are open to receiving them at any time!

For all items, please check that expiry dates extend into 2020. Thanks!

Week 4- spreads, condiments, dressings, sauces (such as Vegemite, jams, honey, peanut butter, barbecue sauce, tomato sauce, pasta sauce, mayonnaise, salad dressing etc.)

Week 5 – biscuits (in boxes or packets, sweet or savoury)

Week 6- drinks (juice in boxes or plastic, tea, coffee, Milo etc.)

Week 7 – treat foods for Christmas (chips, lollies, Christmas biscuits or puddings, long life custard, cranberry sauce, chocolates, Christmas crackers etc.)

At the end of Week 8, all of the items that we have collected will be delivered to the community groups that will be preparing the Christmas hampers.

Current tally of food collected

Tinned food - 65

Pasta and rice – 28

Boxes of cereal -12

Clearly, we are big at heart even though we are small in number. Keep up the great work everyone!

This week we had our Mission Mass for 2019. Students from all classes were involved in the mass. K/1 presented images and objects for the prayer
focus, 2/3/4 presented the prayers of the faithful and Year 5/6 students were the narrators as well as presenting the readings. Father Praveen was very happy that his first mass with us was our Mission Mass. He was impressed with the student involvement. He is looking forward to his next visit. He plans to have a chat with the students after mass and then play some basketball with them during the recess break. Apparently, he is quite a good basketball player!
