Class Happenings - Numeracy
Year 2/3/4 have been revising mathematical language of number work. Students had to match words with phrases and use mathematical resources to make and demonstrate the meaning. Students have also revised addition and subtraction with trading.
Year 5/6 began this week with some revision of place value when working with both whole numbers and decimals. One activity was to match the numerical decimal with the matching words, for example 2.7 matches with 27 tenths. Students also had to match the place value name to a blank grid starting at millions and going down to thousandths.
Kindergarten and year 1 students are finishing up their unit on sharing and equal groups. We read the story called The Doorbell Rang, this is about two siblings sharing a plate of cookies, then the doorbell rings and 2 more friends arrive so the cookies have to be shared again. The doorbell continues to ring with more and more people arriving so eventually everyone only gets one cookie each. Students were given some people and cookies cut outs to re-enact the story and share the cookies. Students recorded the sharing in their maths books.
