Way of the Cross

Yesterday, all students in our school participated in a Way of the Cross prayer service. As mentioned last week, these are representations of the path Jesus took on his way to being crucified. We remembered that Jesus gave up his life so that we could be free from sin and live together in his love. The fourteen representations in the Way of the Cross end with Jesus being laid in the tomb. However, it is the hope of the Resurrection which accompanies us throughout the Way of the Cross, so we included a fifteenth station depicting Easter morning.

As this was a prayer service, each part of the Way of the Cross was accompanied by a prayer, to help us understand the virtues of Jesus, and to know that we too can model the virtues of Jesus in our own lives.

Below is one of the readings, a reflection, and the prayer.

Station Five: Simon Helps Jesus Carry His Cross

We remember how Jesus needed someone to help him carry his cross. The Roman soldiers told Simon to help Jesus carry his cross.

Let us remember that when we help someone, we are like Simon, who helped Jesus.

Prayer:

Jesus, we praise you, we thank you, we love you.

You gave up your life to save us.

 Amen.

Our Way of the Cross prayer service was meaningful and left all students thinking about what Jesus had experienced and ways that we can be more like Jesus in our lives today.

Family Easter Prayer

Loving God,

Thank you for the gift of the Easter Season.

Grant us the willingness to spend time this season in prayer with each other so we too can come to understand more of the Easter Story.

Thank you for the gift of each of us, and for the hope you have given to each member of our family.

Amen

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy Easter and holiday break. I trust you will find time to recognise the solemnity of Easter and reflect on the meaning of sacrifice and commitment that the Easter story brings us. Also, importantly, the joy and celebration of life that the resurrection reminds us of. Enjoy the break with family and friends.

Yours in Faith,
