From the Principal

Dear Parents,

St Joseph’s Inaugural COLOUR RUN!

Congratulations St Joseph’s! The day of the much-anticipated Colour Run finally arrived on Tuesday and what a great day it was for our school! The children absolutely loved this event and their enthusiasm has shone from the day the event was introduced all the way through until the last runner was squirted and the last teacher slimed.

Our thanks to Mrs Green and the SRC for making this event happen. They have worked tirelessly on the organisation, motivating the students to seek sponsorship and putting all the plans in place to ensure an outstanding day for all.

Congratulations to the children for doing such a great job in finding sponsors and a big thank you to the sponsors for your fantastic support! The funds raised will facilitate a whole range of playground improvements and will be enjoyed and appreciated by the students for years to come.

Book Week 2023

Despite being so early in the term, Book Week was a great success, and we would like to thank you all for your terrific support!

Mystery Reader on Thursday saw the children expectantly waiting to see which of the teachers would arrive at their classroom and teachers thoroughly enjoyed sharing favourite books close to their hearts; hopefully inspiring them for future reading.

And to wrap up Book Week on Friday, parents were invited into school to enjoy some time in the sunshine reading together with their children/ Grandchildren. Thank you, parents and grandparents, for your support!

Finally, thanks to Mrs King for the Book Fair. The children really enjoyed the chance to browse the books and we were pleased that families made use of this service. Mrs King is delighted to be able to order some new books for the Library thanks to your participation.

We look forward to Book Week 2024!

Spring Gardening

We are pleased to report that the 4 trees donated by the Weddin Community Native Nursery are doing well and following this success, we are inspired to get started on some Spring planning.

Thanks to Bec Waples for leading the students on Friday to ready the beds for our first crop.

Kindy Transition Days

We were delighted to welcome the Kindergarten 2024 children to school on Tuesday, the first of the Transition Days to prepare the children for their entry to school.

The children are really beginning to look comfortable at school, thanks to their previous experiences during the 2023 Jump into Joey’s program. Thanks to Mrs Best for giving the children such a great morning of fun and learning.

We look forward to the next Transition Days as follows:

Tuesday 31st Oct 9.05 -11.35

Tuesday 14h Nov 9.05 - 2.00pm Parents are invited at 1.15pm for Q and A

Looking forward to welcoming our new Kindy’s over the coming weeks!

K/1 Visit to MPS

The chilly day did not stop our K/1s bringing sunshine to our friends at MPS on Monday. The children and the residents had a great afternoon getting to know each other and swapping stories.

The next group to visit MPS will be the year 2/3/4s on Monday 6th November.

Sacramental Programme – Confirmation on Sunday 22nd September

Mrs McFarlane and Sr Mary and the candidates have been busy preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation which they will receive during Mass on this Sunday 22nd October. The St Jospeh’s community is warmly invited to attend this Mass and show their support for the candidates.

My Body, My Life

Year 5 and 6 families will by now have received a letter with regards to the My Body, My Life program. On Tuesday 14th November 2023 the Archdiocesan Healthy Relationships Team will be here at St Joseph’s working with the Year 5 and 6 students to run the My Body, My Life puberty and personal development program.

As a Catholic school, we are keen to ensure that parents and carers are fully engaged in this very important aspect of their child’s development. Research also shows that despite any awkwardness you and your child might feel, children prefer to hear this information first from their own parents or carers. To that end Yr 5 and 6 families are invited to view 60 minutes of online video content and participate in some activities together at home with your child prior to the 14th November.

In Conclusion…

Term 4 is a time when we begin to find out about teacher and family moves. If you know you will be leaving us, please let us know by popping in or dropping us an email. Staffing for 2024 will be announced closer to the end of the term.

Many of the children will be attending the Boorowa Touch and Netball competition on Friday and we wish the St Joseph’s contingent a great day of fun and competition! Thank you to the parent supporters and transporters too! Thanks also to Mrs Harveyson and Mrs Metcalfe for accompanying the teams. We hope everyone has a great day and please do remember sunscreen and hats!

With best wishes,

Louise Grant
