Poetry Recitation
Poetry Recitation
During Term 2, each child will be learning to recite a poem which they will share on Recitation Day. This day is one of the important ways that the local schools participate in the Henry Lawson Festival. Students may choose to recite in either the Open section or the Henry Lawson section of the Recitation Day but all poems must be Australian.
It would be helpful if all students could provide a copy of their poem to their classroom teachers by the end of Week 1 of next term. Teachers do have books with Australian poems in them if the students need some guidance. Kindergarten students will be given a poem by their teachers but feel free to choose a different poem if you wish.
Some popular choices for Australian poets for children include Libby Hathorn, Duncan Ball, Steven Herrick, Elizabeth Honey and Banjo Paterson to name just a few. Here is a website that you might also find useful.
