Principal's Report
Dear Parents and Carers,
Week 6 has seen us adjusting to cold mornings, and this has been a challenge. Many of the children are putting different layers on and off during the day. Thank you to those families who have clothing labelled clearly, this is very helpful.
During the week, we have continued with our preparations for the Henry Lawson Festival. Yesterday, we completed a full dress rehearsal for our play – The Day the Crayons Quit. Our preschool audience thought that we performed beautifully, and this was the best possible feedback in helping us to be ready for today’s event. It is terrific to see people choosing the growth mindset of I’ll give that a go or I can try this out, or I can learn new dance steps for a performance shows a positive approach to learning new ideas or concepts. The satisfaction of achieving or learning a new skill is enormous.
Thank you to those families who have returned the note about the festival events tomorrow evening and on Saturday, this helps with planning for these occasions.
Henry Lawson Festival –For those children singing in our choir at the Festival Concert tomorrow (Friday) evening - please wear your full winter school uniform and meet our teachers in the Canteen area at THLHS at 6:45pm. The choir is scheduled to perform third in the order of events for the concert. We anticipate being on stage at approximately 7:20pm.
The procession is set for on Saturday June 8 beginning at 1:30pm. The children should meet our teachers in Short St near the scout hall at 1:15pm. The theme for this year is an ode to winter. Children who are joining us for the parade should dress in clothes relating to a winter sport e.g. wear your football/soccer jumper, beanie, scarf, ski clothes etc.
I encourage you to continue having a conversation with your children about using language appropriate for school.
During busy times, it is difficult to make right choices, and congratulations go to those children who are working very hard to be doing the right thing.
Making right choices can be difficult and it takes a brave person to do so.
Semester Reports - Our staff have also been undertaking the process of preparing semester reports for the first half of this year. These will be sent home at the end of week nine. Parent teacher conferences will take place during week ten.
Facebook page - We have been working on developing a Facebook page to share more with the community about the teaching and learning that is happening at school. The page is under construction, but will not be launched until we have completed working through various steps with IT and media staff from head office.
A separate note was sent home last week relating to permissions for including pictures of your child on the page.
Please be aware that this page is only for promoting teaching and learning at school, it will not be used as a general communications page.
Scholastic Book Club – the book club order forms have been distributed. All purchased now need to be made online using Scholastic’s LOOP ordering system. Instructions are on the order forms. If you need assistance setting up an online account, please ask. Book Club orders need to be completed by Monday, 21 June 2019.
Library – now is a great time to have a look around at home and return any extra Library books – these could be under the bed, on the bookshelf, on the kitchen table or even in the “to read” pile. Recently, we found a book that was overdue for 1423 days…
Changes to routine - Thank you to those families who are keeping us informed when children are absent from school, or there are changes to the regular routine. Please be aware that we are required to keep the rolls up to date and that thorough explanation for absences enable us to do so.
Sincerely,
