Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had a jam packed but spectacular start to term 2! It has been great to see students returning to school very settled and ready to learn. We have jumped straight back into learning, in particular our Spelling Mastery and Connecting Math Concepts programs, as we don’t want to waste any valuable learning time!
ANZAC Commemoration
Thank you to our students and student leaders who represented our school proudly at the Grenfell ANZAC Day March and Commemorative Service. Camilla M and India read an ANZAC tribute poem and Stella and Camilla G laid a wreath on behalf of the school as part of the proceedings.
It is always wonderful to see our younger generation acknowledge and pay their respects to those who served and those who are still serving.
Western Region Cross Country
An AMAZING effort last Friday for our small school to host such a fantastic event here in Grenfell. It was an absolute credit to Rebecca Knight's organisation and the willingness of our WHOLE school community to work together contributing in whatever way they could to provide catering for a few hundred hungry children and adults.
The event itself was very well organised and ran smoothly thanks to the highly organised and efficient work of Mrs Harveyson.
We also greatly appreciated the WR Sport Coordinator Lyn Bathgate, for her help in preparing for the day, as well as making sure results were recorded accurately.
Thanks to our amazing list of sponsors (see below), especially Grenfell Country Club, for allowing us to use their beautiful facilities. Also thanks to the team of volunteers that helped in a variety of ways.
As a result, we held an extremely successful carnival with everyone walking away happy, especially our little team of runners, that participated well.
Special thanks to:

From the Religious Education Coordinator
Beginning of Term
Staff commenced the first day of term with a prayerful reflection. The following is a prayer we looked at from St Teresa of Avila:
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good,
Yours are the hands with which he blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands, yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes, you are his body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which he looks compassion on this world.
Christ has no body now on earth but yours.
Teaching is not only a matter of covering a syllabus but about enabling students to gain an understanding of the meaning of their lives; the extent of their giftedness; their value as human beings. It is about them knowing they are a ‘beloved of God ’in whom he is pleased. It is about them knowing that God calls them to be his love in the world today.
As teachers, we play a part in forming good people. We have an impact. We know it will be a great term and look forward to guiding the students in our care to make a positive difference.

Visiting St Joseph’s School in Eugowra last Friday was a very special experience. When I arrived, I noticed that there were several boxes in the makeshift office. I was informed that these were new donations delivered just before I arrived, and that this is a regular and appreciated occurrence.
The purpose of my visit was to present the school with the money that we, as a school community, had raised to aid in helping the school recover from the devastating flood that the town of Eugowra experienced in 2022. The school captains were delighted to accept our donation and they had many ideas for ways to spend the money. The school sends out a big thank-you to the St Joseph’s Grenfell school community for our generosity.
I was then shown around the school grounds and heard about what has been occurring since the flood. The school now consists of the hall, which is currently being used as the office, the staffroom, the hall and the church, the classrooms, which are demountables and the toilets which are also demountables. As you can see from the photos, it is likely that the demountables are there to stay for quite some time, as the original school building is only in the very early stages of being rebuilt.
I noticed the huge number of caravans in front yards as I drove through town. Some of these are now being replaced by ‘pods’, which are temporary homes on stilts, for the homeowners who have chosen to rebuild.
Despite all of this, and the fact that four staff members and seven of the school’s families had significant damage to their homes, the staff and students are moving on in a positive and resilient way. I admire their strength and positivity, and I invite you to continue to include them, and all of the citizens of Eugowra, in your thoughts and prayers, as they face the long road to recovery.
