Dear Parents,
What a joy to welcome so many grandparents to St Joseph’s on Monday morning for Grandparents Day! Thank you, parents, for encouraging the grandparents to join us for this special day. It was great to have so many members of our community come together in unity and enjoy the beautiful sunshine – we were blessed!
Special thanks to Danielle McFarlane, Chelsea Harveyson and the Year 5/6 students for preparing the thoughtful Prayer Service to commence the program for the day. We appreciated the chance to reflect on the important role grandparents plan in our lives, the chance to give thanks for these special relationships, and also to pray for our grandparents and their continued good health and happiness.
Thank you to all the teachers and the children for hosting our special guests in the classrooms. We hope that you enjoyed this window into the children’s lives at school during your time in the classrooms.
What an incredible array of delicious cakes, slices and treats we enjoyed for morning tea! Thank you, parents, for your kindness and generosity! Also a big thanks to Susie McLelland for coordinating the morning tea and making sure everything ran so smoothly.
Finally, thank you grandparents for your support and especially for all you do to enrich the lives of your grandchildren! Your love and support are a great gift!
Kindy Open Evening – ALL INVITED!
The Open Evening for prospective Kindergarten families is scheduled for Thursday 21st September.
Current parents are encouraged to join this event from 5.30 to help welcome the new parents. There will be a BBQ and the chance to get to know the new members of our community.
Thank you to the School Board and the P&F for arranging the BBQ!
A reminder that enrolment forms are now overdue for children commencing in Kindergarten 2024. Please do finalise your application as soon as possible. Please do encourage friends and extended family members to pay us a visit if they would like to learn more about the school.
Kindy Transition Dates
The Jump into Joey’s program gives the children transitioning to school such a great foundation for their commencement and we have received very positive feedback throughout the year on how much the children have enjoyed their experiences at St Joseph’s and how this is helping them to feel confident about starting school.
In term 4, there will be additional transition days for the new starters as follows:
Tuesday 17th Oct 9.05- 11.35
Tuesday 31st Oct 9.05 -11.35
Tuesday 14h Nov 9.05 - 2.00pm Parents are invited at 1.15pm for Q and A
Looking forward to welcoming our new Kindy’s!
Crazy Hair Day
Thank you to Deborah Green and the SRC for the Crazy Hair and Clothes Day last week! It was great to have the chance to dress up and have a giggle at the crazy hairstyles, hats and clothes on display around the school. The children also enjoyed some new playground games arranged by Mrs Green.
Well done to the SRC for arranging this initiative! The funds raised will go towards repairing the backboards of the basketball hoops and other playground improvements.
Borambola Bound!
The children and teachers depart for Camp at Borambola tomorrow, Wednesday 13th September at 7.45am. This much anticipated event promises to be an amazing adventure for the children and there is a fun and action-packed programme, details of which we look forward to sharing with you upon their return.
Unfortunately, due to meetings elsewhere, both Mrs McFarlane and I will be unable to be at school to see the campers off on Wednesday morning. I look forward to visiting Borombala on Thursday and joining the fun.
In the meantime, parents can expect updates on Wednesday and Thursday evening via Facebook.
The bus is due to return from Borambola at 3.30pm on Friday afternoon. If there are any delays, we will send a message via Compass.
BOOK Week -Read, Grow, Inspire
We will be celebrating Book Week during the first week of term 4 and wanted to give you the ‘heads up’ so that preparations can begin over the holiday period. Here is an outline of the activities during the week, all planned around the 2023 Book Week theme – Read, Grow, Inspire.
Tuesday 10th October – Bring a favourite book and enjoy Reading ANYWHERE around the school for a 20 minute session. I wonder what creative, cosy spaces the children will find?
Wednesday 11th October – Book Character Dress Up Parade Choose a favourite Book Character and dress up to celebrate that character. You may want to bring a prop or two too. Be ready to discuss your character and the book it comes from.
Thursday 12th October – Mystery Reader Each class will be visited by a Mystery Reader from the staff who will share a favourite story.
Friday 13th October – Partner Reading Parents will be invited to join us first thing in the morning after drop off for partner reading. If you are able to join us, that would be great!
Book Fair – Throughout the week, the children will visit the Ashton Scholastic Book Fair. This will also be available for parents to visit on Friday or Book Week.
More details of the Book fair will follow.
In Conclusion…
This is the final newsletter for term 3 and on behalf of the staff, I would like to thank you all for your contributions throughout another busy term.
The final day of term is Friday 22nd September. This is also the day the Grenfell Community celebrates NAIDOC and art works by our students are already in progress to contribute to the festivities on the day. The whole school will walk to Taylor Park at 10.00am on Friday and we are pleased that the Playgoup will also join us with their parents.
Instead of the usual online Newsletter, next week the children will bring home a hard copy of a full report of the experiences from camp at Borambola.
The first day of Term 4 for the children is Tuesday 10th October. A reminder that Summer uniform is worn in term 4 with sunscreen and hats being a feature of daily routines.
Looking forward to the term ahead and making a great start with Book Week during Week 1!
With best wishes,

Grandparents Day
It was a gorgeous Spring Day for our Grandparents Day celebrations. Proceedings commenced with a beautiful prayer service to celebrate the gift of Grandparents, which was led most reverently by the Year 5/6 class. This was followed by classroom visits, where each of the students gave their grandparents a special prayer they had written from the heart. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed the glorious sunshine as they dined on a scrumptious morning tea kindly donated by our very generous parent community.
Below is a prayer from the prayer service:
Dear Lord,
We remember grandparents who love us,
encourage us, spoil us, and teach us.
We remember grandparents for their attention,
their knowledge, their patience, and their wisdom.
We also remember the grandparents who live far away,
those who are sick, and sadly,
those who have passed away and are now residing with God in heaven.
They are all in our thoughts wherever they are.
Amen
Thanks to all staff and parents who assisted in various ways to make this day so wonderful!
Kindergarten & Year One Class Mass
Sunday Gospel Reflection (September 10)
Gospel Matthew 18:15-20
While two distinct matters are dealt with in the Sunday Gospel reading, there is a clear link in terms of what Jesus is highlighting. The first is about how we should go about resolving quarrels with our brothers and sisters in the Church. We may have heard this reading several times before, but do we only apply Jesus’ exhortation when it is easy to do so, and dismiss it as outdated when it seems too confronting to resolve conflict in this way?
In the second part, Jesus underlines the importance of gathering with others when we pray – in other words, the power of community. The theme tying these two parts together is the emphasis on unity – that is, the people of God living and working together in harmony. We have a special responsibility as leaders to work to unify those we lead, and work towards building bridges and being peacemakers. For where unity is strongest, there the Holy Spirit can work most powerfully.
Lord Jesus,
May we heed your words today
and truly work to bring peace in the Church and the world.
Open our hearts to be forgiving of others
and to set aside our own wants to work together for unity.
Amen.
