Dear parents and carers,
It was great to have so many St Joseph’s families represented at the inaugural School Community Council on Tuesday evening. Thank you for your help and support!
As previously announced, all parents and carers are now members of the School Community Council and welcome to attend any of the future meetings. We also hope each of you will be able to find the time to be involved in at least some of the school events this year. We do know that this is not always easy! The School Community Council now represents the parent and community body in the place of the School Board and P & F.
We were pleased to welcome Sarah Rose, Family Engagement Officer from Catholic Education to the meeting and she shared the vision for an active, inclusive and welcoming SCC. The vision for the SCC is to provide the connection between the Principal and members of the school community, promote the school in the local community and lead community engagement and fundraising efforts.
We will be forming a SCC Executive Committee and Expressions of Interest are now open to any parent or carer who might be interested in being part of this group. The time commitment is not huge with 6 meetings planned throughout the year. No previous experience is necessary! The roles we are looking to fill are:
- Chair
- Treasurer
- Secretary
- Executive Members
Whether you were able to make the meeting on Tuesday or not, if you feel you would like to be part of creating an active, engaging and welcoming community, please do click on the link below, for more information and I will look forward to hearing from you.
Expression of Interest to join the Executive of the School, Community Council
Should we receive more EOIs than the number required for the Executive committee, a voting process will occur.
Please do pop by for a chat if you would like to learn more about the SCC.
Finally, some important thank yous…firstly to Mrs Green and Mrs King for looking after the children so that their parents and carers could attend the meeting – thank you! Sally Metcalfe and Sheridan worked their usual magic with refreshments for everyone – thank you so much for your helpfulness!
Celebrating St Joseph’s Day – 19th March
Thank you to Mrs Harveyson for arranging a Liturgy for us to celebrate our special day, St Joseph’s feast day on Tuesday. The children learnt about the great qualities of our patron and how we can aspire to develop the same qualities of love, loyalty, hard work and compassion. Thank you to Yr 5 and 6 for the lilies presented to all the attendees to remind us of these special qualities. Thank you to the members of the community who were able to join us for this celebration.
After the Liturgy, the children enjoyed games back at school experiencing joyfulness, another quality of St Joseph.
Thank you Dental Care NSW!
Well done parents and carers for making the most of the visiting dental service. We kept the team busy for a full day and the following morning! We trust families found this service to be helpful and worthwhile.

Please see the flyer below with details of a ‘trial’ event to gauge interest. We hope to be able to offer this experience to St Joseph's children and children from the wider community.

In Conclusion…
Next week is Holy Week and the children have been preparing for this most sacred time of the liturgical calendar by creating beautiful pictorial images of the Stations of the Cross. The Year 5 and 6 children will be presenting the Stations to the children on Wednesday.
We are all looking forward to Mufti Day on Friday (Tomorrow) with the theme of St Joseph’s Boot Bash in aid of the Country Education Foundation . Families are invited to contribute a gold coin. Children are invited to wear clothes of their choice and…..BOOTS!
With best wishes,

Acting Principal
I would just like to say thank you to the St Joseph school community for having me over the past 4 weeks as I completed my primary placement. It has been wonderful getting to know the students, particularly the students in 5/6, which I have had the pleasure of working with. I have gained a great insight into education and teaching practices and look forward to incorporating some of the wonderful strategies into my own teaching practice in the near future.
During my placement I have implemented lesson plans as a requirement of my degree. One of these lessons involved engaging the students in multiplication games to build recall facts of multiplication quickly. The students played a game of ‘greater than’ in pairs and were required to quickly recall multiplication facts shown on two 10-sided dice. The player with the greater multiplied number won the right to move ahead in the game. As students played the game it was noticed how students were using known strategies and their knowledge of multiplication fact families to recall answers quicker and quicker.

Prayer
Pause for a moment in silence...
In this season of Lent, how has the Holy Spirit prompted me to surrender, to deepen my relationship with Jesus through prayer, fasting and almsgiving?
Reflection: St Joseph’s Feast Day Liturgy and Activities
On March 19th, the Church celebrates the Feast Day of Saint Joseph. Joseph was the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. A man of great compassion and great strength, Joseph strived to do the will of God, no matter what God asked of him.
Students celebrated the day by first, participating in a Liturgy dedicated to our Patron Saint, St Joseph. Followed by a morning of fun and interesting activities led by the staff. It was lovely to see all the students so engaged and willing to work together in teams.
Year 5/6 – How is Jesus a Leader?
This term year 5/6 have been learning about what it takes to be a great leader. This prompted them to further investigate what made Jesus a worthy leader. Below you can see students have created a poster display with all the qualities they believe a great leader should possess.
Well done, 5/6!
Coming Up:
Next Wednesday morning, the year 5/6 children will take the lead in presenting the stations of the cross. The morning will include a gallery walk around the school to observe the wonderful stained-glass windows all the St Joseph’s students have been working on with Mrs Green.
Family and community members are welcome to be a part of this momentous occasion.
