Dear parents and carers,
This week, the staff and students had the pleasure of meeting Chris Higgins, Senior Officer of Teaching and Learning and Numeracy Specialist from Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn. Chris visited classes and observed CMC lessons in action, interacting with the children with conversations around their learning.
Chris lead the afternoon Staff Meeting focus on Rocket Maths which is currently being implemented at St Joseph’s in Year 1-6. Rocket Math is a supplemental learning program that teaches students addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions. This program supports the CMC program by reinforcing basic number facts to 20 and times tables so that this information can be recalled with automaticity, thus making problem solving etc more efficient.
The children will be competing against themselves to achieve their goal and the program is highly motivating for students. Please ask your child about Rocket Maths in the coming weeks.

End of Semester 1 Reports
Early next week, all parents and carers will receive the Semester 1 progress reports. St Joseph’s issues annual reports which serve as one aspect of the learning partnership between home and school. Our aim is to ensure excellence in communication and a strong commitment to collaboration between home and school. We trust that you will find the Semester 1 Report informative in providing feedback on your child’s learning, growth and development.
Teachers are available for Parent and Teacher Conferences on Tuesday 2nd July. Conferences provide the opportunity for any clarifications, and further discussion on your child's progress. You will receive a Compass notification when the appointment schedules are available for booking.
As always, if you have any questions, please let us know.
School Community Council Meeting
Thank you to the parents and carers who attended the School Community Council meeting on Wednesday. We had a small, dedicated and enthusiastic group who spent the hour planning for upcoming events and initiatives at school.
Please watch this space! With the Grenfell Show just around the corner, the SCC is definitely looking for volunteers to help out.
Kindergarten and Year 1 Liturgy
All parents, carers and friends are invited to join us on Tuesday 25th June at 10.30 in the Library for the K/1 Liturgy.
Please do join us for some time of prayer, song and reflection if you can!
Mufti Day – St Vincent de Paul Seep out Pyjama Day
On Thursday 20th June, some very brave folk from our sister schools, Hennessy Catholic College and St Anne’s Temora braved the winter weather to sleep at Young Railway Station as part of the St Vincent de Paul Sleepout.
On Friday 28th June, St Joseph’s will be raising money to support the homeless in our part of NSW. The children are invited to wear pyjamas to school and to bring a gold coin (or more) to help raise funds for St Vincent de Paul to support the homeless.
Nest Thursday 27th June, Mrs Holding (Principal at Hennessy College) and her team will be joining us remotely at St Joseph’s to tell us about their experiences at the sleepout and give us some more information on how we can address homelessness.
The School Community Council are arranging a Meal Deal for the children; please see further information later in this newsletter.
In Conclusion…
Please find information with regards to National Consistent Collection of Data for Students with Disability (NCCD). All schools in Australia are required to participate annually in the NCCD. This allows our Catholic sector to continue to provide and prioritise innovative and high-quality teaching and learning to support all students on their learning journey. Please find more information later in this newsletter.
We have a large group of students traveling to Temora on Friday for the Western Region Athletics Carnival. A great day of sport is assured! We all have our fingers crossed the weather will be kind for the competitors and for the organisers, St Anne’s Temora. Thank you to parents and cares accompanying the competitors! Wishing everyone a great day and a safe journey!
With best wishes,
Lunch Order Menu Tuesday & Thursday
We would like to thank the parents and friends who make the St Joseph’s Breakfast Club possible on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. As the cooler weather is upon us, something warm in the children’s tunnies when they arrive at school will be greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who makes this happen! Special Thanks to the Grenfell Foodhall for their support!
If you are unable to attend your rostered day please reach out to another family to swap day.
